Opeyemi E. AYINDE, PhD

Ayinde, Opeyemi E. is an Agricultural Economist by training. She is an Associate Professor at University of Ilorin Nigeria and a Senior Research Associate Fellow of the South African Research Chair Initiative (SARCHI) at Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. She obtained her PhD in Agricultural Economics in 2008 from University of Ilorin, Nigeria where she is currently serving as an academic staff.

The current research focus of Dr Ayinde is economics of innovation in agricultural productivity. Specifically, she is exploring themes such as agricultural producers’ behaviour to risk, climate risk to agricultural innovation, diffusion of new technology, agricultural management strategies, climate change on agricultural production; gender issues in agricultural production, among others.

Dr Ayinde has been involved in several collaborative research, She is currently carrying out research on economics of innovation in drought and stress tolerant maize varieties. The research is sponsored by International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) under Prime Agreement from CIMMYT for collaboration in implementation of Stress Tolerant Maize for Africa – Phase III. She has also been Facilitator at 3rd AFRICALICS Ph.D. Academy; Roundtable Moderator to United Nations Development Programe (UNDP) on Rice Supply Chain Development in Nigeria; World Bank Representative to World Bank Supervision Mission to Nigeria; Research Collaborator with Africa Rice; Research Consultant to International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA among others.

Dr.Ayinde is a member of professional bodies such as Nigeria Agricultural Society; African Association of Agricultural Economics, International Association of Agricultural Economics and Risk Analysis Society. Most of the research findings she singly and jointly conducted have been published in peer reviewed journals and presented at local and international conferences. She has also supervised several masters and doctoral students.

Dr.Ayinde has won several research grant, prizes and scholarships. Some of the collaborative research grants she has won include Uma Lele Mentorship Grant by Applied Agricultural Economics Association formerly known as American Agricultural Economics Association (2016); Award by International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to carry out socioeconomic survey on STMA crops (June 2016 – Jan 2017), and assess Farmers’ Preferences, Women group to test DTMA crops; Joint Award from West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme to carry out a research on Innovation Transfer of Maize in Kwara State, Nigeria. Her excellent academic records have also been recognised through awards such as Best paper presenter at Banana 2008 Conference, Kenya (2008); Faculty prize for Best Student in Faculty of Agriculture (1999); Department prize for the Best Student in Department. of Agricultural Economics (1999); Societe Generale Bank Prize in Agriculture (1999); ARMTI Prize in Agricutural Economics and Farm Management (1999); Professor Bola Okuneye Prize in Farm Management and Accounting (1999); and University Scholar in Faculty of Agriculture (1992-1996)

In providing service to community, Dr. Ayinde served as Treasurer and Welfare Coordinator to Bethel Baptist Mission, Nigeria. She is Mother to Faith Chapter of Girls Auxillary, and Matron to Royal Ambassador Association, under Nigeria Baptist Convention.She also founded several rural women association in KwaraState,Nigeria.

Dr. Ayinde is a Christian and happily married with children.She is determined tobuilding capacity for young professionals and render service to humanity at local level, with specially attention to women and youth within the scope of Save Sahara Network (SSN).
