SAVE SAHARA NETWORK, Save Sahara Network (SSN) is a non-profit organization that is registered as a corporate body, under the Companies and Allied Matters Act No. 1 of 1990 on 5th May, 2017. It is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) born out of passion to carry out grassroots projects leading to protection, conservation, restoration, rehabilitation and sustainable utilization of biological diversity with the view to empowering people at the grassroots. The organization also carries out capacity building trainings and creates forum for scientific interactions and discussions on current environmental issues with the view to initiating adequate intervention.

To achieve the world acclaimed SDGs, people at the grassroots must be fully integrated and adequately empowered. SSN therefore carries out activities thatlead to “protection of nature for empowerment and sustainable development”. The NGO was established to provide appropriate intervention leading to involvement, engagement and empowerment of people at the grassroots to initiate the culture of people living in harmony with nature as they meet their daily livelihoods. To achieve this, the organization is providing various opportunities and platforms for both professionals and non-professionals in various disciplines to be involved and carry out activities toward achieving the global goals.

Toward achieving its vision, SSN relies on donations, membership dues and other external funds used in carrying out field projects. It also involves in collaborative and partnership projects within its mandate. Most importantly, SSN creates platforms for individual professionals and organisations to network, collaborate and share information on protection, conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources in both terrestrial and aquatic tropical environment. It also creates public awareness and advocacy on current environmental issues to initiate appropriate intervention.

In addition to carrying of field projects, the SSN involves in provision of research and financial supports for students as well as training and capacity building for emerging professionals, practitioners in disciplines relating to natural resources.
